WHAT IS HORIZONTAL DIRECTIONAL DRILLING (HDD)?

Directional boring, commonly called horizontal directional drilling or HDD, is a steerable trenchless method of installing underground pipes, conduits and cables in a shallow arc along a prescribed bore path by using a surfacce-launched drilling rig.  HDD has minimal impact and disturbance on the surrounding area. HDD is used when trenching or excavating is not practical, in situations such as crossings of road, rivers, lakes, wetlands, nature preserves, landscaping, parking lots, to just name a few.  HDD is suitable for a variety of soil conditions and jobs.
